New Prints Available: “View of Rockland Harbor”
“View of Rockland Harbor”, by Robert Leedy, 2008, archival gicleé print on Hahnemühle William Turner 310 gsm paper, 9.75″ x 13.75″ (image size), from a limited edition of 20, signed by the artist, $250.00 USD, unframed.
This painting was done early one morning in Rockland, Maine. I began with a yellow underpainting which translated well what the morning light was doing. From there I concentrated on using complementary violets and blues to bring the painting together. There are some wonderful grays in this painting which are achieved by mixing complementary colors together. In essence, this painting was done with a very limited palette and subdued (well, for me anyway) color. Small bits of color were introduced into the boats. The boats / ships are painted very abstractly – in the sense that the shapes don’t necessarily describe the object precisely but merely give you an overall impression of ships while adding to the buildup of the composition and overall design.
Purchase the original painting.
