(Original painting Collection of Mr. Lou Rice, Atlantic Beach, Florida.)
I am very happy to announce the release of limited edition, archival gicleé prints I have printed from “Mechanic Street Fog”, a watercolor I painted while in Maine during the summer of 2006.
This print is from a painting I completed in Maine at one of David Dewey’s watercolor workshops during the summer of 2006. When I returned to the same location during the summer of 2008, I noticed the little boat house was gone. Word was it had fallen through the dilapidated dock. A rather sad ending, indeed so, this print is sort of my homage to it…
The original painting was done on the spot. I remember it was a bit chilly that summer morning and the fog was pretty thick as I began painting. It eventually lifted somewhat and I was able to complete the painting. Although the subject matter is relatively simple, the chaotic state of the dock proved to be a bit of a challenge. The original painting, despite its small size, kept me busy for most of the day. There are a lot of overlays in the washes and this particular print – as is the original itself – is very rich in color.
Garry McElwee, of Artist Services in Jacksonville, Florida, did the printing. Garry & his wife, Sandy, hired me as graphic designer right out of college. Garry is now devoting most of his time to archival printing and does a superb job at it. With his years of experience as a commercial photographer and designer, he is an artist himself which brings a good sense of aesthetics and artistic understanding to the printing process. But Garry’s real expertise is in the area of color management, a very essential element in the gicleé printing process and one that is not always fully understood by a lot of printers.
Technical information:
The image was printed on Hahnemühle William Turner 310 gsm paper with a Roland FJ 500 printer using eight pigment-based Pantone Hexachrome inks. A ClearStar coating spray was applied after printing to protect the print from UV rays and moisture.
The print is available from a limited edition of 20. All prints are signed by the artist. The price is $225.00. Through December 31, 2008, I am offering a 20% discount on the purchase of two or more prints. This can be of the same print or a mix of prints.
