“Yolas de Aguadilla”
“Yolas de Aguadilla”,
by Robert Leedy, 1995,
watercolor & watercolor pencils,
16 in. x 12 in.,
Collection of the Artist
This painting was created in the studio from another painting done on location. The West Coast of Puerto Rico is a wonderful place to visit while in Puerto Rico – it’s much more laid back than San Juan and there are some lovely beaches. I was drawn to these colorful fishing boats as I drove though the seaside town of Aguadilla. I think I passed up painting on the first go (perhaps I was without materials) but returned ready to paint a dozen paintings. I love the colors and it translated well into my work.
I incorporated watercolor pencils in this piece which allowed me to add water after the fact and create washes. This painting is a bit more loose than the original one.
If you would like to see the original painting, here is “Wedding Yolas”.
