“Egg Abstraction I”
“Egg Abstraction I”,
by Robert Leedy, 1976,
watercolor on paper,
8 in. x 10.5 in.,
Collection of the Artist
Here’s a blast from my past: This takes us back to 1976 and a small watercolor I did in one of my first watercolor classes in college. The professor had set up a still life of eggs in the studio and dramatically lit them with the studio lights. We did painting after painting of these blasted eggs! I became very bored with the subject and started doing quick studies in bold, abstract color. My professor, Joe Pember, loved them.
These paintings were some of my first experiments with bold, direct color and are probably early indicators of my personal style that developed later on.
