The title, “Venetian Parking Space”, obviously reflects Venice’s lack of automobiles. After a few days there, you realize how dependent we all are on cars. I found it very interesting how Venetians have adapted to boats. Not only the gondoliers – but just about everyone has a boat. It was interesting to see deliverymen, firemen, policemen, mailmen, vendors, garbage men, etc. – all conducting business from a boat.

I like the bold yet simple composition of this watercolor. The red in the boat complements the green water. The small bit of red in the mooring ring repeats this and sets the painting off. These little step down niches (or whatever you call them) were a reoccurring element in my Venetian paintings. They also made getting canal water to paint with an easier task!
