These two paintings were rainy day projects during an il Chiostro workshop to Venice with artist Louise Freshman Brown. The Venetian weather often does not cooperate for plein air painting and I needed somewhere dry to work.

These interiors were actually in a deconsecrated chapel in a small hotel where we were staying. iL Chiostro actually had set it up so that this was our studio to work in at any time. I have to say it is certainly one of the more inspiring studios I’ve ever worked in!

Most of my paintings from that particular trip were started on location and finished in this studio.

If I remember correctly, it was so wet and humid that I chose to work on hot pressed paper to fascilitate drying.
