“Rockland Shipyard, Maine”

“Rockland Shipyard, Maine”,
by Robert Leedy, 2002,
watercolor on Arches Cold Press paper,
12.5 x 18.5 in.,
Collection of the Artist
Although the subject matter is not exactly glamorous, I had a lot of fun painting this watercolor. But in reality, one should be able to create a good painting out of ANY subject…
The light changed drastically during the several hours I painted this. The tide also took the water completely out of the picture as you see it. My painting position was in full sun with no shade – for most of the day; the heat of the day seems to convey well in this scene.
