Apparently there are whole villages in Nigeria whose sole income is from scams of this nature. And they obviously do well. And it seems not be a good idea to ‘out-scam’ these guys – they are way ahead – and they feel absolutely no shame – not part of their make-up – this is a great ‘trust your gut’ story. thanks Stephen

I’ve had people try to do the same to me as well. Sad. Sad that whole boat loads of fraudulent copies are being made of artist’s work without permission. There are people paying $4000 a pop for fake originals because they do not educate themselves. Great article.

I m in the trucking business and I had a trailer advertised for sale. got an email from richi, was interested in buying my trailer. I emailed him that the trailer was sold but Ihad a truck for sale, so he said he would buy that. I had to wonder why some one in the UK would buy a semitruck in california, or a semi trailer, he didn’t seem to care one or the other. he agreed to the price right away. I recommended that he inspect the truck first and he replied that he would take my word on the condition. he said he would send the money directly to my bank if I would send him the information. when I told him that I couldn’t do that, he saidhe would send a certified check the next day he emailed that he made the check out for $7,800 too much and would I please send him the amount over the purchase price. Maybe he needs the truck to haul all the art he is buying.

But You missed your chance to have some fun.
You could have referred him to me as your agent. I woud have told him that we only had two Robert Leedys for sale in the Gallery. And that the small one was $200,000 and the large one was $450,000. If I could have gotten an offer from him we could use it to market your work with.

My sister, Fairfax Nabers, has another one of her big shows coming up in Atlanta this summer. I want you to try to go to it and meet her. She will give you some great ideas about marketing your work.
